Town Of Star

454 S Main St
910-428-4623

About Us:

Star is one of five municipalities located in Montgomery County and boasts of having the exact geographic center of North Carolina. This is evidenced in the fact that the Army Corps of Engineers has measured (via satellite) and located the exact geographic center of our state, which is now officially marked. Being located in the center makes us easily accessible from any area of our beautiful state and beyond.

Approximately 800 residents live in our little town which has thrived on its rich history revolving around the railroad and hosiery industries. Today, the town of Star is involved in a comprehensive economic restructuring effort which focuses on cultural tourism.

The town of Star lies approximately 1/4 mile west of the I-73/74 corridor in Montgomery County. Our climate is very mild and allows for year around activities such as golf. We have three outstanding golf courses in our county (see Local Attractions) and we are located within 30 miles of Pinehurst which offers some of the most premier golf courses in the world.

Montgomery County is also home to the Uwharrie National Forest with miles and miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, as well as camping sites and over 46,000 acres of unspoiled nature. In addition, the Forest contains one of the oldest mountain ranges in North America.
