Sweeny Police Department

111 West Third Street
979-548-3112

The department utilizes three marked police vehicles, one unmarked police vehicle, and two police bicycles on our regular patrols of the City. We are a 24-hour municipal police agency serving the City of Sweeny. However, our night-time dispatching is provided by the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department and we utilize the jail facilities of the West Columbia Police Department and the Brazoria Police Department. Although our police station is only open Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8am - 5pm, police officers are on duty and patrolling 24 hours a day to serve the City.

We serve an incorporated, Home Rule city with a population of approximately 5,000 citizens. Sweeny is located where FM 524 intersects FM 1459 in Brazoria County, Texas. We are located about 65 miles southwest of Houston. Sweeny is the westernmost city in Brazoria County.

To understand the police service we provide, it is important to identify the type of community we serve. Overall, the community is largely residential. The majority of businesses are located on our Main Street (FM 524) and Second Street (FM 1459). These businesses, roughly 110 of them, include automotive repair shops, a shopping center, a supermarket, doctor and dentist offices, convenience stores, specialty stores, and restaurants. The city's hospital, the Sweeny Community Hospital, serves the City and the entire area of the West Brazos, and is going through a major expansion project. The Sweeny Independent School District operates three schools within the City: a high school, a junior high school, and an elementary school.
