Our Church

In 1844, Father Schact began building a log church in the community and on Easter Sunday, March 23, 1845, St. Dominic's Church was dedicated. The Catholic Directory of 1846 lists the Catholic Church as St. patrick's. Apparently the name was changed because of the large Irish population that was building the community.

In 1856, Father Orengo finiched a church in McEwen, which seems to have supplanted an earlier one built by Fther Schact. On March 17, 1877 the cornerstone of a 40x80 foot church was laid by Father Fahey (preparation were made by Father McInery but died before it could be started).

On October 2, 1925, the school, rectory and convent were blessed and dedicated by Bishop Smith. Unfortuanately, years laster, sometime between 1941-46 the Church, school and rectory were destroyed by fire. Father James A. Kemper came to St. Patrick's 1946-48 and initiated various organizations and started the building program. In 1948, Father Kemper was transferred and Rev. William B. Grannis was appointed pastor. Father Grannis remained untio 1953 and during this time he built the present St. Patrick's Church.
