St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church

1764 Meyersville Road
361-277-8653

St. John is one of the oldest Lutheran congregations in Texas. Our first church was built in 1850 and our congregation was formed in 1851. The original Log Church was replaced by a Stone Church in 1867 and in 1921 our present Brick Church was built. The Stone Church (right edge of the above picture) was renovated to its present architecture in 1896 and is still used for special services such as weddings, Advent Services, and Easter Sunrise Services. Books, bibles, and other artifacts of our church's early years are maintained as a museum inside the Stone Church which is open to the public every day of the week.

St. John is located in Meyersville, Texas, a rural community located near Victoria and Goliad Texas. Meyersville was the second community established in DeWitt County (after Yorktown) in 1848. Our church was the first to be established in DeWitt County and was one of the first 5 Lutheran Churches in Texas.
