Philadelphia Presbyterian Church

351 Morrow Road
404-366-1851

About the Church:
Philadelphia Presbyterian Church was established in 1825 under the leadership of the Rev. John S. Wilson.

The original building was located in this immediate vicinity, but its exact location is unknown. The first building was replaced sometime prior to the outbreak of the Civil War.

The second building served as a house of worship and as a Sunday school. It did double duty in that it also served as a school house for the community. It has been rumored (likely, but not proven) that some of Sherman's staff stabled their horses in the building in 1864.

The current sanctuary, our third one, was constructed in 1895.

Its planning and construction were done by local members of the church. The system of rafters and trusses which support the roof have been described as an engineering
masterpiece!
