Pearland Community Gardens

Community Gardens are coming to Pearland!

Most community gardens usually have one or two types of gardens due to space constraints. Due to the generosity of the Vic Coppinger YMCA, Pearland's first community garden will have approx. 1.4 arces to garden. A plan has created that adds new gardens as funding and time allows.

A donation garden will be built first and planted in the spring of 2010. Volunteers will plant and maintain the garden and most of the produce will go to local charities and food banks. The plans also include handicapped accessible raised-bed gardens to allow all residents the opportunity to garden. Several teaching gardens are also planned. such as, an herb garden, edible native plant garden, a butterfly garden and a demonstration orchard. The biggest project planned for the garden is an Allotment Garden where residents can lease a garden space  for a small fee so they may cultivate their own plot.  This is a great way for residents who have limited space to have the opportunity to garden and grow their own produce.
