Our Children's Center, Inc. (OCC) is a not-for-profit early childhood daycare center and preschool with a parent volunteer board of directors.  The daycare center was opened in 1980 and offers infants, waddlers, toddlers and 3 and 4 year old care.  The center is licensed by the State of Connecticut and follows the States Guidelines for early childhood development along with a head start curriculum.  Ratios of teachers to children are infants - 1 teacher to 2 infants with a maximum of 8 infants, waddlers (mobile infants) - 1 teacher to 3 waddlers with a maxium of 8 waddlers; toddlers (1 and 2 year olds) 1 teacher to every 3 children with a maximum of 8 and the preschool offers 1 teacher to every 7 children with a maximum of 18 children.  Teachers speak Spanish and Russian and use sign language in the infant room.  Teacher educations range from CDA's to Masters Degrees and all teachers are CPR/First Aid/Epi Pen trained.  The center is open 52 weeks a year from 7:30-5:30 Monday to Friday.

The curriculum incoporates science, nature, music and daily exercise along with hands on learning  activities, structured circle time, weather observations and calendar time, show-n-tell, snacktime, free choice, open ended centers of discovery, snack time -  family style  and a dedicated pre-k for 4 year olds.  The center also offers half day programs for 2 year old toddlers and preschoolers (limited avilablity); family discounts; year round family events, art shows, Scholastic Book Fairs, fundraisers, field trips, special theme days, cooking classes, music classes, special visitor days, soccer classes and also offers credits for family referrals.
