History

Morrow Elementary School has been in existence since 1895. Prior to 1950, the school was a three room wooden building located on the northern side of the property. This building housed all grades and had a faculty of two to four teachers depending on enrollment. The new building consisted of six classrooms, an office, and a lunchroom. Modifications and additions to the building were made in 1952, 1969, 1974-75, 1979-80, and in 1996.

The current enrollment at Morrow Elementary is approximately 527. The school enrollment reached an all time high of 835 during the 1966-67 school term. Since that time enrollment has reflected the openings of additional schools nearby. The current principal, Lee Casey, is believed to be the eighth principal since 1895.

Morrow Elementary is within a middle class working neighborhood. Nearby commercialization has changed the character of the surrounding community. A diversity of educational and economic backgrounds are represented in the student body, and a high mobility of students reflects that many reside in rental houses, apartments or mobile homes. The school continues to enjoy strong PTA support and respect from the community it serves. The county wide transition to middle schools was completed in the spring of 1990 and Morrow became a K-5 school. In 1995, Morrow offered Pre-Kindergarten for the first time and currently has one class.
