MOMS Club Of Gainesville

1464 Madera Road #N 191

History :

An at-home mother in California, decided she was tired of being alone. She wanted to meet other stay-at-home mothers and children to play with her own. Unfortunately there were no organizations that met during the day allowing her baby and preschooler to play with other children. The decision to start a brand new organization just for stay-at-home mothers, and the MOMS Club® was born in 1983.

The chapter this mom started became so successful, that she realized mothers in other areas must be needing the MOMS Club®, too. Soon the California mom and other volunteers were helping mothers start MOMS Clubs across the country and around the world!

Some words from our founder of the Moms Club® of Gainesville. They say that motherhood changes everything. So I discovered in October 1998 when we adopted our two precious children. Our son was almost 3 years old and our daughter was 4 months. Becoming a mom to two children at the same time (one already very mobile) was a wild ride. I had no family support nearby and found myself feeling very overwhelmed and depressed. I loved my children more than life itself, however, I was lost at home all day with these two little ones. My husband traveled extensively and it was tough for me.

One year into my new role as mom I discovered an advertisement for MOMS Club® of Lawrenceville in the newspaper. It saved my sanity. I knew the minute I entered my first meeting that I had found my salvation. MOMS Club® provided me the support I had desperately needed.

It was wonderful to talk to other moms who were experiencing the same ! things as me. I felt as if my life became more organized once I had places to go and things to do.

We moved to Gainesville, Georgia in July of 2001. I continued to commute down to Gwinnett County for activities. I felt very lonely and isolated in Gainesville. There was definitely a need for a MOMS Club® chapter in N.E. Georgia. In February of 2002 I received a startup packet from MOMS Club® International. I got the ball rolling immediately with an ad in the newspaper and fliers posted at a few parks. I also asked my son's preschool to distribute fliers in each child's folder. We held our first meeting in April of 2002 with three moms attending. Within a few months we had a growing membership and an awesome chapter. The first year year of the chapter involved a lot of time and energy on my part.

However, I am very happy that I did it. It was well worth it! I am even more proud of the fact that MOMS Club® of Gainesville is thriving and has offered moms the support and friendship that is vital to being a good mother.
