The Marion County Historical Society (MCHS), founded in 1969, nurtures interest in local history through publishing, lectures, special events, children's programming and the operation of The Marion County Historical Society Museum. In May, 1989 the Society purchased Marion's "Old Post Office," renaming it "Heritage Hall." This National Register building is now the Society's headquarters and museum. We encourage the membership and participation of the Marion County community. Volunteers are welcomed at Heritage Hall and provide valuable service to the museum by performing a variety of tasks. They enable the paid staff to concentrate on their areas of expertise and keep the museum operating by giving tours, helping to care for collections, creating exhibits, providing educational programs for area youth and helping out with cleaning and repairs of the building. Volunteers also provide support for and assist with MCHS sponsored events such as  our Antiques Appraisal, Log Cabin at the Marion County Fair, Blast from the Past educational programs, assisting in the museum during the Popcorn Festival and many more events.
