History

Living Hope Wesleyan Church opened it's doors to the community of Madison in September of 2003. At that time, both Brookings Wesleyan Church and Linwood Wesleyan Church (Sioux Falls) had a number of families from the Madison area attending their churches. Pastor Tim Purcell, senior pastor of Brookings Wesleyan Church, began casting a vision for the Brookings Church to mother a new congregation in the Madison community. After visiting with various pastors of other evangelical churches in the Madison community, visiting with the families from the Brookings church living in Madison, and determining a large spiritual need, the die was cast and a decision was made to plant a Wesleyan congregation in Madison when God's timing became evident.

Those from Madison attending the Brookings church began to meet and pray that God would bring fruition to their vision and help them to begin a new church. As His timing began to unfold, God's hand of blessing was evident. About this time, Tim Troxell joined the pastoral staff at Brookings Wesleyan Church and began to sense God's call on his life to give leadership to a new congregation in Madison. Shortly afterward a Bible study was formed that met bi-monthly in Madison on Thursday nights. God began to bless this small midweek group with additional people, incredible unity and a spirit of expectant faith. After a short time of meeting together, the group began to feel God's calling to move forward with planting a new church. Around November of 2002, Pastor Troxell attended church planter's assessment and was approved by the denomination, district and Brookings church to move forward. The small Bible study began to meet weekly, praying about and planning for the new church.

Many decisions needed to be made regarding the vision, core values, target audience, style of music, church name, etc. As needs in many areas became apparent, God was faithful to provide. Participating in the planning of the church boosted the faith of all those involved. Since these beginning stages, Living Hope Wesleyan Church continues to move forward one step at a time, discovering more and more about God's purpose for them as He continues to answer critical prayers and work in ways that only He could. By the summer of 2003, critical mass in terms of finances, people, vision, etc. had been reached and a firm decision was made to open public services on September 7th, 2003.

As this article is read, please understand that there is no way to tell what direction Living Hope Wesleyan Church will head in the future as it faces many challenges and growth opportunities. One thing can be said for sure - "Where God calls, He also provides." We trust that He will continue to be faithful to us as we give Him the glory He deserves!
