Worship at Lane Memorial contains four important elements:

  1. Gathering:  We gather together it the Lord’s name.  This gathering doesn’t begin when people enter the doors of the church.  It begins as a an incredible procession as people find themselves drawn by the Spirit to their place of worship to address and be received by the God who loves them.
  2. Sharing our Story and Responding:  We learn the story of who we are and whose we are through the reading of Scripture and hearing the Scripture proclaimed and explained in the sermon.  Each Sunday there are four Scripture readings, which follow the Revised Common Lectionary, a three-year cycle of readings designed to lead us through the major themes of our story from both the Old and New Testaments.  When we hear the stories of what God has done and is doing, we respond by affirming our faith and lifting up prayers to God.  Our prayers are requests for a holy encore, and we invest ourselves as part of God’s encore in our weekly offering.
  3. Giving Thanks and Sharing Holy Communion: On Sundays when we share Holy Communion, we find ourselves gathered at the table for a holy meal, where our host is none other than the risen Christ, and we dine not just with one another, but with all Christians throughout time and space!  Holy Communion is literally bread for the journey, as we receive God’s grace and forgiveness at the table.
  4. Sending Forth Into Service:  We are sent out in the world with God’s blessing, nourished to love God by loving others.
