Lake McMurtry Friends is a non-profit group originally organized to protect Lake McMurtry and preserve it as a place for public recreation. In August 2012, Lake McMurtry Friends assumed responsibility for management and operation of the lake, which is still owned by the City of Stillwater. It works in partnership with the City of Stillwater to maintain and improve Lake McMurtry facilities while increasing the number of users by hosting events, developing new ways for the public to enjoy Lake McMurtry and educating the public about what Lake McMurtry has to offer.
