Beliefs

We, the faculty and staff of John D. Floyd Elementary School believe in preparing for the challenges of the 21st century. This belief fosters a commitment to the whole child, we must instill a love for learning and a willingness to strive for excellence, thereby insuring the optimal potential of each child.

We believe that we must provide instruction that includes a variety of educational techniques with an emphasis on manipulatives, critical thinking, and real-life problem solving.

In a cooperative learning environment, creativity and discovery are the keys to self motivation; therefore, we are committed to presenting a curriculum that is well balanced, sequential and founded in sound educational theory.

We further believe that in the pursuit of education, our children should enjoy a supportive environment in which risks can be taken and creative thinking is encouraged. This belief encourages a harmonious relationship between school, home, and community. We believe that together we can guide each child to accept life’s situations and learn to deal with them.

We believe that the children of John D. Floyd Elementary School will leave with a greater awareness of themselves, others, and the world. We believe that this awareness of the likenesses in people, cultures, and value systems nurtures in them the desire to promote positive relationships for the betterment of themselves and society. We believe that it is our responsibility to sow the seeds for cooperation, dedication, and service to a democratic society.
