825 Needmore Road
931-920-6158

Mission Statement:

To work with families and students to establish high standards for academic success, citizenship, and environmental awareness.

Glenellen opened in August of 1999 and was named in honor of an early 20th century African-American school located nearby. It is a seven year old facility housing approximately 1,175 students, a full staff of 75 professional teachers, a principal, assistant principal and a half-time assistant principal. Children attend school at Glenellen from 8:45 am to 3:30 pm, 180 days a year.

At the time the school opened, Glenellen Elementary became the school system’s first fully integrated technology elementary school. Each classroom averages five Imac computers with a state of the art teaching station, including a big screen television, VCR, and a computer. The building includes over 56 classrooms and 4 portable classrooms with these technological advantages. Other areas within the structure include a beautiful skylight foyer, cafeteria/kitchen, 27 station computer lab, science lab, media center, art room, music room, gymnasium with a stage, and an auxiliary gymnasium. Outside the building, two age appropriate playgrounds have been installed through efforts of Glenellen’s Parent/Teacher Organization.
