The Franklin Lakes public school district is for elementary pupils, kindergarten through eighth grade. Located in the northwest section of Bergen County, New Jersey, and within close proximity of New York City, the community of Franklin Lakes has nearly 10,500 residents. Franklin Lakes is considered to be a full service community, with recreation and activities for residents of all ages. Many professionals live in Franklin Lakes and work elsewhere.

The district educates approximately 1,500 pupils in two elementary buildings (K-5) and one middle school (grades 6-8). The two elementary schools are conveniently located in different areas of the borough. A third elementary school is under construction and will open in September, 2004. All three elementary schools will serve neighborhood resident children (K-5). The Franklin Avenue Middle School is centrally located. For their high school education, pupils attend either Ramapo or Indian Hills High School. These two schools comprise the regionalized secondary school district of Franklin Lakes, Oakland, and Wyckoff known as the Ramapo Indian Hills High School District.

The Franklin Lakes Schools employ nearly 233 people of which approximately 145 are teachers. This latter figure is calculated to mean that there is one certified teacher for every 11 pupils.

Over a five-year period, each instructional area is revised, revisions are implemented, and the results of implementation are evaluated. District-wide committees coordinate curriculum revision and the active Professional Development Committee provide comprehensive staff development programs. The Franklin Lakes Instructional Council meets to coordinate district wide curriculum initiatives. Curriculum articulation occurs with the other school districts comprising our region so as to have a comparable preparation for pupils attending high school.
