History: 

The First Baptist Church of Weaver was organized and constituted on April 8, 1877 at the Cave Creek Academy in Weaver beginning with 21 charter members.  It was first called Cave Creek Academy Baptist Church.  The first pastor to be called was the faithful Tolliver Perry Gwin, who remained as pastor until his death in 1893.

By August of 1880, the Cave Creek Academy Baptist Church had moved into Weaver Station.  It changed its name to Weaver Station Baptist Church, with a membership of 91.  On August 12, 1956, the church changed its name to First Baptist Church of Weaver, with a membership of 196.

The First Baptist Church has always been a mission-oriented church from its beginning.  A committee was established in August of 1883 for the purpose of missions, raising $35.00 to further the Gospel.  By 1926 the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) was diligently involved in Home and Foreign mission work.  In the mid 1970's, Weaver First sent various groups of people to conduct Bible schools on the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico, to south Alabama to work with native Indians of our state, and also to New Orleans to the Baptist Seaman's Center.

The Sunday School has always been the backbone of Southern Baptists.  Our Sabbath School's first superintendent was Mr. David Francis Weaver, from whom the town of Weaver got its name.  To day our Sunday School (or as it is now referred to as Bible Study) offers classes for all ages, teaching the Gospel as our Lord commanded.
