The City of Mangum is a charter city with a manager-council form of government. The mayor is the official head of government while the city manager is responsible for the day to day operation of city activities. The City Commission appoints the boards for the Mangum City Hospital Authority, Mangum Housing Authority, Planning and Zoning Commission, Airport Authority, Golf Course Committee and the Library.

Mangum is located two hours from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and two hours from Amarillo, Texas, nestled in the great rolling plains of southwest Oklahoma. The town was incorporated as a city October 30, 1900. Mangum is the county seat of Greer County, and the historic capital of the unassigned territory involved in a land ownership dispute with Texas.
