About Us

The Catalina Bible Church was founded in 1964, with its members meeting in various homes in Avalon to share the Word of God. In March 1965, the church moved into the 1924 home of the renown author, Gene Stratton-Porter where it remains today. In her lifetime (1863-1924) Porter authored 12 novels, seven nature books, two books of poetry, children's books and numerous magazine articles. With an estimated 50 million readers, her works have been translated into several foreign languages as well as Braille. Eight of her novels were produced as motion pictures.

Located just two and a half blocks and a 5 minute walk from the Green Pleasure Pier at 346 Catalina Avenue. CBC teaches the uncompromising Word of God every Sunday at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM and several evenings during the week to both the English and Spanish-speaking residents of Catalina Island.

Beliefs:

We Believe in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as being verbally and completely inerrant in the original writings, and that they are the supreme and final authority in faith and life.

We Believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We Believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

We Believe that man was created in the image of God, that man sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word, and deed.

We Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according the Scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are redeemed and justified by His shed blood.

We Believe in the physical resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord Jesus Christ, His ascension into heaven and His present life for us as High Priest and Advocate.

We Believe in "that Blessed Hope," the personal, pre-millennial and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We Believe that all who receive, by faith, the Lord Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.

We Believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost along with Satan and other fallen angels.

We Believe in the threefold work of the Holy Spirit; that He seeks out and brings the lost to salvation; that He sanctifies the believer; and that He baptizes and gives spiritual gifts to the Christian for service.

We Believe that the church is a spiritual organism made up of all believers in Christ; that in its local manifestation it is an autonomous assembly of believers; and that its ordinances are baptism and communion.

We Believe that God is worthy of all praise, reverence and love; and that the highest calling of a Christian is worship of Him.
