The New Music Miami ISCM Festival brings vibrancy and innovation to the community through concerts and transformative masterclasses and forums throughout South Florida!

Just us this season as we celebrate 27 years of avant-garde compositions and performances in the heart of Miami! Our festival features exceptional works of trailblazing composers and boundary-pushing performers from all around the globe, many of whom are present to discuss their music for FIU students and audiences.

Performances will take place at The Wolfsonian – FIU on Wednesdays. Each evening begins with a captivating pre-concert discussion at 7PM, where audiences gain unique insights into these musical masterpieces. The festival discussions and concerts are free to the public thanks to the generosity of our sponsors.

Opening Concert ft. Amernet String Quartet & Rachel Calloway

Classical music is ever evolving with new sound worlds and ambitious, experimental composers. This evening is a collection of cutting-edge contemporary classical works by Eric Wubbels and Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz and a world premiere by Orlando Jacinto Garcia, performed by the acclaimed Amernet String Quartet and guest soprano, Rachel Calloway.

FIU Alumni Composers Concert

The music of FIU alumni composers takes center stage as their works are performed by the members of the NODUS Ensemble. Founded by FIU Distinguished Professor, Orlando Jacinto García, NODUS is the professional contemporary chamber music ensemble in residence at Florida International University.

Together, they will create and perform exciting new works, play new classics from this repertoire, and revitalize recent classics that are on the threshold of obsolescence.

"Those at Peace Shall See Their Wake" is a 40 minute site specific, spatial work composed by Orlando Jacinto Garcia, where strings and electronics intertwine to create a mesmerizing soundscape for audiences. The audience will find themselves seated on the 6th floor while the performers inhabit the 7th floor space. It's a transformative encounter that blurs the lines between audience and artist, sound and space.

Described as “phenomenal and fearless,” Vicki Ray is a pianist, improviser, and composer. She has commissioned and premiered countless new works by today’s leading composers. Ray is a founding member of Piano Spheres and head of keyboard studies at the California Institute of the Arts, where she was named the first recipient of the Hal Blaine Chair in Musical Performance. She has appeared on numerous international festivals and was a regular member of the faculty at the Bang On a Can Summer Festival at MASS MoCA.
