Friendswood Library will show six acclaimed films from World Cinema including films from India, Italy, Columbia, China, Sweden, and the Czech Republic. Film’s include Mira Nair’s award-winning film Monsoon Wedding, Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language film, The Great Beauty, the first Columbian film to be nominated for an Academy Award, Embrace of the Serpent, China’s blockbuster comedy-action film, Journey to the West, Ingmar Bergman’s intense drama starring Ingrid Bergman in her final film, Autumn Sonata, and Koyla, winner of both the Academy and Golden Globe awards for Best Foreign Language film.

Film introduction will begin 10 minutes prior to start time. Each film will conclude with a moderated discussion.

Love The Library?

Become a Friend of Friendswood Library  for as little as a $10 annual membership.  The Friends meet the first Tuesday of the month for an hour to discuss service initiatives, outreach, and fundraising activities.  Meetings are optional but the Friends would love to hear from you.  Become a Friend online through the Friendswood Library website or in person at the library’s circulation desk.

The Friends have helped the Friendswood Library obtain library equipment such as a portable document scanner, Oculus Rift Virtual Reality System, a display case, Wi-Fi Hot Spots, and prizes for Summer Reading. The Friends also sponsor many library programs and events throughout the year including ZakiCon, May the Fourth Be With You, the Ekphrastic Poetry Contest, music performances, and others.

Friends of the Library will be meeting Tuesday, December 6th at 6:00pm.
