From: Dare County Library

Addiction and recovery is a matter that touches so many in our community. The Dare County Library is pleased to announce a greatly expanded selection of books for individuals and families on these subjects. Most of the newly purchased books are geared toward the general reader, the person in recovery or their family members.

If you don’t already have a Dare County Library card, attaining one is free for anyone who owns property or lives in Dare County. Simply visit your closest library location during business hours to apply for a library card. Public libraries are a safe space for individuals to receive any information they are seeking confidentially from a friendly, helpful and non-judgmental staff.

The Saving Lives Task Force

The Dare County Library extends a sincere thank you to Roxana Ballinger, who serves as co-chair of the Saving Lives Task Force (SLTF), for her book purchase suggestions. The Dare County Library strives to meet the information and recreation needs of residents by providing up-to-date and relevant materials that meet the diverse needs of our community.

The SLTF is a team of professionals and community members working toward the prevention of substance use disorders, as well as increasing access to and the availability of effective treatment for all Dare County residents in need of assistance.

You can contact the SLTF at 252-475-5619 or email [email protected].

How to Find these Titles in the Dare County Library's Online Catalog

Our new online catalog is now easier to navigate than ever. Search for keywords and phrases such as substance abuse, therapy, self-help, treatment, trauma, recovery, codependency and healing.

The new "browse virtual shelf" option in our online catalog allows you to easily "see" titles that are similar to those your search retrieves. Remember that any book within our library system can be sent to the library location where it is most convenient for you to borrow.
