Bridges Library System Celebrates Library Card Sign-Up Month

Schools and Libraries

September 1, 2023

Waukesha, WI - September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month and Bridges Library System is joining the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to celebrate the incredible value of a library card. The initiative reminds residents to sign-up for a library card or renew at their local library to get connected to all the benefits.

“A library card provides so much more than just books. Libraries also connect patrons to technology, programs, equipment, multimedia content, classes, events and much more,” said Bridges Library System Director Karol Kennedy. “Empowering individuals with resources to learn, grow, and flourish benefits the whole community.”

There are 24 public libraries in the Bridges Library System, covering Jefferson and Waukesha counties. Residents of either county can get a CAFÉ library card for free. One card connects users to borrowing privileges at all 24 libraries, as well as access to shared digital collections. Visit your library with proof of current address and a picture ID to sign-up for a library card.

Jefferson and Waukesha County residents can find their library at bridgeslibrarysystem.org/member-libraries. Residents of other counties can find their library at getyourlibrarycard.org.

The CAFÉ library card goes beyond providing access to books, ebooks, and audiobooks. It also provides a diverse array of offerings, ranging from movies, video games, and computers to magazines, music, research databases, and even homework assistance. Additionally, cardholders can explore online courses, try craft kits, borrow items from the popular ‘Library of Things’ and participate in various social and educational activities.
