Sandcastles Building 101

Get ready for the Sandcastle competition on Saturday by participating in our first Sandcastle building course. Learn how to build sandcastles like a pro with this 2-hour course.

Self-Guided Horticultural Tour

Meet with our Historian at the lobby entrance to Bucky’s for a brief presentation on the various plants and Natural Wonders that call the Grand home! Afterwards, walk at your own pace around the property to discover these items of interest.

Go Fly a Kite

Join the recreation team at the picnic tables by the Beach Hut, and learn how to build and fly a kite. Kites are available for purchase at Oak and Azalea, so you can continue the fun for your entire stay. Weather Permitting.

Honoring its ties to American freedom, the Grand’s unique history is celebrated each day at 3:45pm with a procession that commences by the Main Lobby fireplace and culminates with a Civil Warreplica Cannon firing on the edge of Mobile Bay at Cannon Park. Following the presentation, a Daily Lagniappe – or little bite – is presented. Elegant and endearing, and abundantly welcoming for more than 170 years, the Grand Hotel is a treasured destination for generations to love.

Popsicles and Sandcastles

Meet our Resort Activities Staff near the Volleyball Court on North Beach. We will have a variety of flavored pops available to help you cool off while you build a sand castle using a variety of shovels, pails, and other creative items provided for you.

To commemorate the art and craft of bartending, the bartender and the passion for creating unique and different cocktails from the past and present, please join us Wednesday - Monday at 5pm in 1847 Bar, where the bartender will present a daily cocktail, their inspiration and a quick lesson about the skill of crafting delicious concoctions.

The Ringing of the Sunset Bell

A Southern Tradition to celebrate the end of the day and beginning of the night… Let the bell’s toll move you to the porch of Bucky’s to enjoy a spectacular Mobile Bay Sunset. The sunset is so beautiful; we had to concoct a drink in honor of it… the Mobile Bay Sunset touting the same gorgeous colors as displayed in the sky. We begin our celebration thirty minutes before sunset so get there early; seats begin filling up at least an hour prior.

The tennis courts at the Lakewood Club are fully equipped and staffed with professionals willing and eager to assist you. Our new facility includes nine hydra-courts and one hard court. Golf

Lakewood Golf Club at the Grand Hotel Golf Resort and Spa is open to members and hotel guests who enjoy playing golf in a setting rich with history and tradition! Yardages for all levels of play and special rates for juniors are available! Our PGA Pros are available upon appointment to help you perfect your game. Pickleball

Pickleball is a sport that is fun for the whole family as it combines many elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong and is quite easy to pick up, which contributes to its popularity. Pickleball is an excellent opportunity to make friends, move your body, and enjoy the gorgeous Alabama sun. With stunning views and a world-class staff, your expectations are sure to be exceeded. Croquet

The Grand Hotel started offering croquet in the mid-1940s. Our game has been elevated with the addition of 2 championship 6 Wicket Golf Croquet lawns at our Lakewood Club. Golf croquet is a version of the game that is very popular due to the fact that new players can be introduced to the game rather quickly and can begin playing after learning just a few basic concepts and skills. Golf – The Experience – Driving Range

More than a driving range, “The Experience” is a 15- acre state-of-the art practice facility that combines an exciting learning environment with fun challenges to make every player better. With ways to hit every club in the bag, hunker down on a flop shot or work on perfecting a bump and run, The Experience provides an expansive golf environment that takes learning to new places, helping develop new players and keep existing players in the game. Rounding out the experience: fire pits and porch chairs to kick back in, a flat screen with the favorite game on and a full bar to keep spirits high. Practice takes shape at The Experience like nowhere else, creating a hub for the local golfer and a destination for golfers across the US and around the world. If you did not bring your clubs, do not worry, we have clubs for the entire family at the Caddy Shack, just ask the attendant and they will set you up!

Fitness Center

With a multitude of options for exercising at the resort, the Fitness Center, located in the Spa Building, offers all the workout must-haves for amping personal performance, such as LifeFitness Weight Resistance Machines, Elliptical Trainers, Technogym Treadmills, Peloton Bicycles, Fit balls, and Free Weights, mats for stretching, plus an Indoor Pool. It’s the perfect place to keep up a regular regime, inspired by the view of our 36-slip marina and Mobile Bay. Complimentary water and fitness towels are provided.

Grand Bikes

8am-5:30pm

Return by 6pm

The Grand Hotel has bikes available for all ages, and this is one activity that you are sure to enjoy! Bikes are complimentary for the first hour and $10 per bike for each additional hour. Everyone must sign a waiver to ride, and helmets are required for all guests aged 16 years or younger. Last bike rented at 5:30pm and is due back by 6pm, unreturned Bikes incur a $50 fee.

Bikes are available to reserve at the Beach Hut or Online. During the Summer and Holidays, we recommend you book your bike, and sign your waiver in advance to ensure availability. You can book your bike, select your timeslot, and sign your waiver online Here.

Kayaks, Paddleboards, AquaTrikes, and more . . .

Paddle around our private cove located on the beautiful Mobile Bay. Watercrafts are complimentary for one hour. Age restrictions apply and vary for each individual watercraft. Everyone must sign a waiver to ride, and life jackets are required for all ages.

Watercrafts are available to reserve at the Beach Hut or Online. During the Summer and Holidays, we recommend you book your watercraft, and sign your waiver in advance to ensure availability.

Camp Grand and Arcade

Have fun challenging your friends to a game in our arcade! Equipped with pinball, shooters, and other fun games for all ages, the whole family can enjoy their time in our game room. Classic and modern board games, playing cards, and books are also available for your enjoyment. In our Camp Grand and Arcade there is something fun for everyone to enjoy! Arcade takes quarters; change machine available in the arcade.

Activities Lawn

Enjoy some outside games on the West side of the property from Julep Point. Lawn games for your enjoyment include: croquet, horseshoes, pingpong, putting green and ladder ball. A volleyball net is located on North Beach.

Fleischer Memorial Pier

9am-9pm

Whether you just want to sit and relax or catch the big one, the Grand Fishing Pier, located on the South side of the property, is ready and waiting for you. You will find cane fishing poles and bait on the pier for your enjoyment.

The Grand Ducks

The Grand Hotel is home to a flock of ducks that tolerate us quite well! They look forward to amusing you while you toss them cracked corn. Duck food is available at the front desk located in the Main Lobby. The ducks prefer their meals served around the Lagoon near the Cascades! Stop by Oak and Azalea Boutique to purchase your very own “duck call” to round up the Grand ducks!

Grand Nature Walk

Starting at the pier, this nature walk will introduce you to the local flora and fauna while allowing you to take in the beautiful views of Mobile Bay. If you are interested in more information, you can scan the QR code at each point for details about:

Grand Feature and Adult Pool

Bring the family down to enjoy our feature pool, and waterslide, while the little ones cool off at the splash pad. Looking to relax? Stop by the adults-only heated pool and hot tub. The indoor pool is open daily from 5am - 10pm. Pool towels are complimentary and can be checked out and returned to the kiosks at the feature pool. Unreturned towels incur a fee of $20.

Bucky’s Firepit Reservations

Located on Bucky’s Lawn, our nine-bay view firepits are one of the resort's most desired settings to relax and unwind. To put your mind at ease and secure no-waiting seating, four of our nine fire pits are now available for reservation. Amenities include five cushioned lounge chairs, gourmet chips and dip, bottled water, take-home leather coasters, a fleece blanket, and a dedicated service concierge. Bayview firepit reservations are a resort amenity offered to registered guests staying at the Grand Hotel Golf Resort and Spa and Members of the Lakewood Club
only. Reservations are available two weeks prior to your desired date. If by 3pm, the four rental fire pits have not been reserved, they will be opened up on a first-come, first-serve to our guests. Hotel reservation confirmation or a Lakewood member number is required. No discounts apply to the rental fee, and all sales are final.
